Ecological Surveys
Habitats
Our team of ecologists can undertake high-quality botanical surveys across a wide range of UK habitats and ecosystems. Our survey expertise ranges from the completion of UKHab classification assessments to support Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG), to targeted surveys of specific communities or protected plants.
We are pleased to offer the following services:
- Completion of UKHab classification surveys, permitting high resolution data collection sufficient to inform robust BNG assessment work.
- National Vegetation Classification (NVC) for a wide range of plant communities.
- Completion of targeted surveys for specific plant species, such as those afforded specific legal protection under the Wildlife & Countryside Act 1981 (as amended).
- Completion of Extended Phase 1 Habitat surveys, including initial assessment work for faunal species (also known as protected species scoping surveys).
- High resolution mapping of botanical data to permit thorough impact assessments.
- Engagement with consultees such as Local Planning Authorities, Natural England, Plantlife or the Species Recovery Trust to develop and agree appropriate mitigation strategies sufficient to satisfy legislative and policy requirements.
- Bespoke reporting as required to support planning applications or land management strategies.
Protected Species
Our ecologists can undertake the full suite of surveys commonly required to inform an ecological baseline and/or the development management process.
This includes initial protected species scoping surveys whereby we will determine which species are potentially present on a parcel of land, including Preliminary Roost Assessments (PRAs) and Habitat Suitability Index Assessments where required.
We can also complete detailed 'Phase II' surveys for the following species and faunal groups:
We regularly work with our extensive network of specialist subcontractors to deliver a range of specialist surveys in addition to those completed by our in-house team.
Through this network, we can organise and oversee specialist surveys such as for invertebrates, crayfish, and a range of small mammal species.
