Preliminary Ecological Appraisal
The first step in ascertaining the suitability of land for a change of use.
Aurochs Ecology has extensive experience undertaking Preliminary Ecological Appraisals (PEAs) for minor and major developments. We pride ourselves on providing robust advice which ensures a considered, proportionate and cost-effective approach to planning and land management.
A PEA usually represents the first step in ascertaining the suitability of land for future development, or other changes in land use. The principal aim of a PEA is to ascertain the likely ecological interest of a site, both in terms of its flora and fauna. The approach also allows consideration of potential impacts on off-site receptors, such as designated sites.
The process therefore permits an initial assessment of the potential ecological effects which could arise through implementation of a scheme, and is sufficient to identify whether additional survey effort would be required to undertake a robust Ecological Impact Assessment (EcIA) in due course.
Our approach to PEAs also ensures that all necessary data is collected to establish a baseline habitat value using the Statutory Biodiversity Metric, permitting the completion of Biodiversity Net Gain assessment in due course.
